These Super Easy Tricks Will Help You Get a Good Night’s Sleep 😴
And no, we’re not just talking counting sheep. 🐏
These quick and easy tips and tricks will hopefully help you get that much needed shut eye even after a stressful day of studying. 😴
TURN IT OFF
We’re talking any electronics. Way before you need to go to sleep. How on earth is your brain supposed to turn off if your phone isn’t? Give yourself about half an hour before you want to go to sleep to be completely electronic free and you’ll definitely nod off quicker than if you’re checking your Instagram feed every 5 mins until you realise it’s 2am.
Take a few moments before you’re going to bed to reflect on the good parts of your day. Maybe take up meditation to help fully decompress your mind and consider. We love Headspace which you can download for free on your phone. Though make sure you do this step before turning off everything because this app could be a bit difficult to use if your phone is turned off. Duh.
KEEP A SCHEDULE
It can be difficult when Netflix releases a new show and you’re binge watching through the night and they keep asking you “are you still watching?” And you’re like GOD DAMN IT YES I AM STILL WATCHING. But, if you are strict with yourself in the evening you won’t have to be so strict with yourself in the morning - which really is the hard part. Making sure you go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning makes your body much happier and you get used to the schedule. Your mind will eventually know that ah yes, it’s 11.30pm it’s time for me to shut off = much better sleep.
DON’T DRINK BEFORE BED
Of course, you’re at uni, you’re gonna *occasionally* be going on a night out and downing one too many Jägerbombs, but if you really need a good night’s sleep you need to lay off the booze. Although, it feels like you’re getting a good sleep because, undoubtedly, you’ve passed out the second your head touched the pillow/ sofa/ fridge/ wherever you were, your sleep quality is going to be significantly worse. Alcohol keeps people in the lighter stages of sleep, so you can get as many hours as you like, you’re not gonna feel too energised when you wake up.
GET SOMETHING SMELLY
Candles are a great addition to your room to help you doze off. You can find many different types of candles that are specifically made to help relax you before bedtime. Not to mention the fact that low lighting helps put you into relaxation mode too. Take a look at some of our favourites:
