Why You Should Definitely Study A Year Abroad ✈
University can be the most exciting time of your life. And at some point you'll probably get the opportunity to do something a little different...
Here are the reasons we reckon you should say YES to going on a year abroad!
LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE
Employers bloody well love it if you can speak another language. We're not just talking about that GSCE you took in French though. Basic language skills definitely do not equal being able to say "where is the swimming pool?" in French, German and Spanish. It's a start, but studying abroad for a year will help your language improve in a more authentic dialect with more practical phrases.
MEET NEW PEOPLE
Yes, studying abroad can be really scary, but you won't be alone in this. There will be a load of other people in the same boat as you who are equally as scared and very much willing to make friends with you. Not to mention, even if someone isn't studying abroad too, people are generally very friendly and welcoming. Don't be scared.
UP YOUR CONFIDENCE
Speaking of how scary stuff like this can be - it will make you way more confident. If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat! Just get on. Now, we're not saying that you're gonna go study on the moon or something, that would be ludicrous, but seriously: THIS IS AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY. You should go for it knowing that no matter what happens you've done something that took balls.
LEARN ABOUT A NEW CULTURE
This is not one to take for granted. You can learn so many things about different cultures if you study abroad and it can help you with self-introspection in the future.
Studying abroad can be one of the most exciting and fun experiences of your entire life. Grab it by the hands and don't let it pass you! ✈
