On a budget, can travel, say TripAdvisor, the (unofficial) ultimate authority of where to go, what to do and where to eat.
In their annual TripIndex Cities report, TripAdvisor looked into the cost of a summer holiday for two to travel between June and September this year.
While the costs assessed include four-star hotel for three nights, a visit to three attractions, lunch each day, a taxi to and from dinner each day, and dinner itself – just think have far your £££ will go with hostel living.

If you know a thing or two about Vietnamese food, then you’ll have a fair idea of Vietnamese capital. Hanoi is a beautiful melting pot of cultures that you’ve just gotta try, full of French influences, Vietnamese tradition, and consumerism – just like an inauthentic banh mi, that’s a Vietnamese pork roll.
As the heart of the Bollywood film industry, you can expect to see everything that you’ve ever seen in one of their glitzy blockbusters in Mumbai. JK, kinda. Formerly known as Bombay, this incredible city is an architect buff’s dream. Not for you? Remains from Portuguese and English occupations, and the Raj’s glory days will make you eat your words.
3. CAPE TOWN
Want to stuff your face and pay next to nothing? Head to Cape Town, say TripAdvisor. The city’s picturesque harbour, the stunning view from Table Mountain, along with its incredible wildlife parks are all reasons to check out the South African capital. Just like the Lion King, but IRL.
4. KUALA LUMPUR
Enjoy city life, resort life and jungle life? Well, you’re a man (or woman) of great contradiction and you’ll bloody love Kuala Lumpur. You’ll eat so much delicious food that your tummy will feel like it's about to burst. You’ll see so many gravity-defying skyscrapers that'll make your brain sore with confusion. But, then you’ll come by a rooftop pool to relax in before a day trip to a tea plantation for cuppas and monkey hangs, and lots of them.
In Bangkok, seek and ye shall find. This busy city has absolutely you could possibly want in life. Affordable designer fashion that you can actually fit into, magnificent gold-decked temples, and markets the size of 15 football fields that sell everything from handmade plates to pet snakes. Say what?!
