The Freshers’ Guide To Starting University 🎉
Starting university is one of the best and possibly most terrifying experiences of your life so far. You’re fleeing the nest and living by yourself.
Here’s our flash guide to starting your First Year of Uni.
MAKE FRIENDS 👯
This can be extremely daunting. You’re moving away from your school friends and into a house full of randoms. Don’t worry. Just remember every single person is in the same situation and you’re just another random to that other random who just moved in next door, so make sure you say hello and get friendly with them because they’re probably just as scared of you as you are of them. Unless you’re some kind of extrovert in which case do yo thing, you know what to do.
COMMUNAL AREAS ARE… COMMUNAL 🍴
This is one that you’ll learn pretty quick. Ah yes, Jessica I see you using my colander again and not cleaning it even though it’s covered in broccoli. Make sure you’re respectful of other people’s things, always ask to use their kitchen bits before going ahead and scratching their non-scratch pan and don’t get too freaked out if someone uses your stuff. Seriously, someone in that house is gonna have a toastie maker and you’re gonna want to befriend that poor sod.
GET READY FOR TRAVELS 🚂
For the first few weeks you’re going to be having the absolute time of your life and will probably forget your family and friends from back home even exist. However, in a couple of months you’ll miss them and want to go home for a weekend of food that isn’t cooked by you and doesn’t taste like cardboard. Make sure you grab a 16-25 railcard to save ⅓ off your fare, because trains can be ridiculously expensive and that money could be used to buy cheese.
DON’T FORGET YOUR HEALTH 🍏
The Freshman Fifteen is real. Trust us. And while it can be fun to get a bit tipsy and eat a takeaway every other night, it’s not the healthiest way to live. Join a society or sign up to a gym to make sure you stay fit and healthy. Also, occasionally remember to hit the fruit and veg market. Your body will thank you.
HAVE FUN 🍻
Probably the most important one of all. It’s gonna be great! You got this. Enjoy yourself! 🎉
