How To Spring Clean Your Room Using Marie Kondo's Tips ✨
You’ve probably heard of Marie Kondo by now. Whether it’s from her bestselling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or her addictive Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, this lady is tackling mess left, right and centre.
Seeing as it’s April we’ve got one thing on our minds and that’s spring cleaning. Having a spring clean of your room and surroundings can help you keep your mind clear of clutter and give you a fresh environment to create new ideas in.
THE KONMARI METHOD
Marie Kondo uses her own KonMari method to tackle each problem category by category, helping stay focussed on the job at hand rather than getting distracted by that old gameboy colour you found under your bed whilst simultaneously clearing your wardrobe. 🤔
Here are the six things Kondo focuses on in order to make what might seem like a big deal, into smaller more manageable issues (a bit like Mary Poppins really).
COMMIT TO IT
You’re the only one who can do this and you gotta get your head in gear.
IMAGINE YOUR IDEAL LIFESTYLE
How would you like this area to look? And how would you like it to make you feel?
Get rid of items you no longer need or want, sincerely thank each item for serving its purpose. Even the furbys.
TIDY BY CATEGORY
Tidy by category, not location.
Komono (a.k.a. Miscellaneous Items)
FOLLOW THE RIGHT ORDER
Follow the method and get it done.
DOES IT SPARK JOY?
Ask yourself for every item, does this spark joy? If not, you know what to do.
And there you have it, the six golden rules of the KonMari method. If you want to find out more about Marie Kondo, make sure to check out her Netflix show, or watch this video to learn how to fold clothes the right way.
