How To Deal With Exam Stress 😫
Exam time. Nobody likes it. Nobody wants it.
If you’re feeling under pressure and aren’t sure how to deal with exam stress, here are some tips for you to try feel a little better during your exam period.
Tidy desk = tidy mind. It’s scientifically proven that if you’re in an organised space you’ll concentrate better and feel more relaxed and able to work. Physical clutter overloads your brain and stops you from being able to think well which can cause a lot of stress. Ever found yourself rereading the same paragraph over and over again without taking in any info? You’re not in the right space to concentrate on learning, so find a new space to reset or get cleaning.
READ A BOOK
And no, we’re not talking about one for your course. A study from the University of Sussex, says that reading can reduce stress levels by up to 68%. That’s a whole load. The study showed that silently reading for just six minutes slows down the heart rate and eases tensions in muscles. In fact, it got subjects to stress levels lower than before they started.
Dr Lewis, the cognitive neuropsychologist behind the study, said: "Losing yourself in a book is the ultimate relaxation… we are all craving a certain amount of escapism.”
STOP CHECKING INSTA
Yeah, it’s still not changed since 30 seconds ago when you checked. Heading to social media for procrastination can feel like a welcome break during revision, but it can have a negative impact on your mental health. Try to cut down on the times you check your phone when you’re stressed out and opt for stress relief that doesn’t involve screen time like exercising, reading or going for a walk.
GET SOME SUN
Get yourself outside. Even if you only get 5 mins of sunshine, it’ll help boost your mood and keep your serotonin levels within a healthy range. If it’s raining then urmmmm… 😅Here’s another tip:
LISTEN TO MUSIC
Listening to some music and singing along can boost your mood and help increase productivity. We’ve put together a Spotify playlist that’ll help you get in the mood for some studying. Check it out here!
