A Day In The Life Of... An Ecommerce Merchandiser At Hidden Fashions
Name: Monica Badhan
Company: Hidden Fashion Ltd
Job Title: Ecommerce Merchandiser
Uni subject: Children & Integrated Professional Care
Usually anytime between 6.30- 7.00am if i'm going straight to the office, depending on my mood, I like to have a quick workout before work in which case I’d be up for 6am.
Not much of a breakfast person, but I always need a brew to start the day. I tend to skip and wait for lunch unless I have had a workout then I need a good protein-energy breakfast to keep me going.
What do you listen to on your commute?
Nothing! I love a bit of quiet and me time in the mornings while driving to work.
What does the average day look like for you?
No day is ever really the same for me. I try and plan my days out and prioritise my work ahead of time.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
PIZZA & ICE-CREAM Fridays of course!
I love being the first to see the trends that come in, it excites me that we offer our consumers catwalk style items at the best prices.
Most days are challenging and hectic but I wouldn’t change it, it’s what keeps me going. The atmosphere is always upbeat, we’re a small close-knit team - we’re a family! Oh, not to forget to mention cake on Birthdays!
If money was no object, what would you be?
I’m a big foodie and adrenaline junkie, so I would probably be off travelling the globe somewhere eating and exploring.
What was your favourite thing about uni?
Obv the social life was great, but I learnt a lot about how to be independent in a new city. Learning to cook and clean up after myself was a challenge but a lesson which was needed to be learnt. The overall journey of being a student is something to be experienced.
How’d your degree help you in your current role?
I didn’t specialise in anything fashion-related, so my degree didn’t specifically help where I am now. However, my style of writing has improved immensely from assignments.
Where did you work before this?
Funnily enough, I have always worked in fashion, before working for Hidden Fashion, I worked in various retail… That’s where I got my passion for fashion.
What do you do to wind down after a long day?
A nice hot shower, a comfy pair of pjs with a cuppa in bed watching Netflix. I’m very much a home girl, so this is what I do almost every night.
What’s your advice to anyone wanting to be an Ecommerce Manager?
If you’re going to uni, study a course which will be beneficial to your future career. While you’re at uni get as much experience, temp jobs/placements as you can in the relevant field; it will help you in the long run when you get a job, in my opinion, the experience is rated more than a degree.
If uni isn’t an option for you I would recommend going on short courses, having something under your belt is better than nothing, always push yourself to keep learning and most importantly you need to love what you do!
