Here Are Some Of The Weirdest Friday 13th Superstitions We've Ever Heard Of
It’s Friday 13th! Time to get spooky. Here are some of the weirdest superstitions from around the world.
Maybe it’s best to stay indoors today.
CUTTING NAILS AT NIGHT
Ok, so this kind of makes sense, cutting your nails at dark is definitely not the most sensible idea. Although with today being a full moon as well as Friday 13th, you’ll probably have a lot more light to get this task done.
What makes slightly less sense is the Japanese superstition that suggests that you should not clip your nails at night because if you do, you won’t be with your parents when they die. So put the clippers away and wait until the morning.
DON’T DINE WITH 13
This might be where the fear of the number 13 originated. It’s considered bad luck to dine with 13 people because of The Last Supper as Judas was the 13th guest to sit down, and Jesus was crucified on a Friday. Maybe get a takeaway tonight then?
CHEWING GUM AT NIGHT
In Turkey, there’s a strange superstition that gum will turn into rotting human flesh in your mouth if you chew at night. Not the best way to freshen your breath then.
LIGHTING THREE CIGARETTES
Some people believe it is bad luck to light three cigarettes with one match.
This superstition dates all the way back to WW1 when it was believed that lighting the cigarette of three separate people gave enemy snipers enough time to take a shot. Fair enough.
In Russia, if a bird poos on you, it's good luck, and may bring you some money. The more birds involved, the richer you'll be! So, it might not be Friday 13th’s fault if you get pooped on today by 15 pigeons.
DON’T CUT YOUR HAIR
You may want to schedule your haircut for a different day. Some say a quick snip on Friday 13th will result in the death of a family member. Not worth the risk really.
