Leonardo DiCaprio's Earth Alliance Is Donating $5million To Aid Amazon Fire Effort
Leonardo DiCaprio's environmental organisation, Earth Alliance, is giving £4.1million towards helping stop fires in the Amazon.
Earth Alliance has announced that it will donate $5m (£4.1m) to help combat the fires currently destroying the Amazon rainforest.
Earth Alliance left a statement on their website saying:
"The destruction of the Amazon rainforest is rapidly releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, destroying an ecosystem that absorbs millions of tonnes of carbon emissions every year and is one of the planet's best defences against the climate crisis."
According to WWF, almost 73,000 fires have been recorded in the Amazon rainforest already in 2019, which is a huge 85% increase in fires from 2018.
The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest and a key ally in fighting the climate crisis. There are some ways you can help out. The easiest way is to donate to the emergency trust fund, where proceeds go to identify the most affected areas and the communities most in need of our support and help support community services to reduce the fires and offer emergency relief where it’s needed.
