Why Practicing Self Care Is One Of The Most Important Things A Student Can Do
As the great RuPaul would say, “if you can’t love yourself how the hell you gonna love somebody else. Can I get an amen?”
Student life can be stressful, so adding self care to your daily routine can be great for your physical and mental health.
If you’re overwhelmed with what life is throwing at you, it can be easy to forget to look after yourself and take some time to away from things to focus on yourself, but self care is a continuous process and it can make the stressful things easier to deal with.
If you’re in the right frame of mind to take on the world, then you’ll probably find things you were previously finding too stressful, a lot easier to handle.
Unfortunately, sometimes we can think that self care is selfish or overindulgent. This means we can forget to take care of yourself due to feelings of guilt about getting the “more important” things done.
For example, if you’ve got an exam coming up you might be tempted to spend the entire night before studying and cramming. However, ignoring your emotional, mental, or physical needs could have adverse effects on not only your results, but also your health.
Self care doesn’t just have to be meditating. If that’s not your thing then that’s totally fine. Check out these ideas and see what fits for you.
